The phone pairs to the stock parts for hands free calling. It stays connected there. The phone will ALSO pair to this device for streaming everything that isn't phone calls to the stereo. Bonus it's really quick to connect and start music.

I didn't realize phones could do that with two simultaneous devices until I stumbled across something recently. Now I not only have this device but ive paired my phone to the Garmin on my motorcycle for calls and paired directly to my bluetooth headset for streaming music. Oh, and the Garmin is paired to my headset as well for directions and weather alerts.[/QUOTE}]

Well I've found out that I have the Premium GPS Navigation radio that has the XM built in.

I was searching the internet and went to Infotainment.com and put in my year/make/model to see what refurbished factory systems were available for my vehicle. They showed 2 different ones with pics. Mine has more connections in the back which includes the XM antenna cable (you can see that in my pic above, it's the yellow plug) and also has the "i" button on the front bottom right (shows weather forcast).

I viewed the installation pdf and it states "The 2012/2013 HDD GM navigation has an integrated XM Satellite receiver" and when installed into vehicle with an XM receiver behind the glove box to unplug the harness/plug and the antenna from that box and use the supplied antenna extension to plug antenna into the back of radio. The harness/plug stays unplugged and the XM receiver box can be removed if wanted.

So basically I can't use this adapter in my vehicle to stream music from my phone via Bluetooth. Guess I'll be returning it to Crutchfield.

Don't think so, only connects to Bluetooth for calls.

Grrrr... you're not alone man. Just bought this for my 2013 XL Denali....same thing. Nothing behind glove box, XM tuner built into the radio itself. Lame. Guess we're stuck with an AUX cord until i replace the whole thing with an Android solution.

Wow. Sorry guys. I actually looked at the installation instructions before I ordered and verified that I had the box. Maybe they need to ask folks to do that.

Before I found this I was looking hard at a bluetooth device that plugs in to one of the 12v outlets and has a cable to go to the aux input. That way at least you're not having to plug your phone in physically. Just make sure it doesn't handle phone calls or you'll have to be careful how you pair your phone so the hands free bluetooth will still work. Also if you haven't changed your outlets to be switched you'd need to pull that out each time. I currently do that with my cell phone charger. I found instructions on this site to make them switched.

wellllll im glad i found this, just looked, i also have the built in xm. I just got this burb 3 weeks ago. xm has been on the whole time. if it never turns off im gonna have a hard time convincing myself to replace the factory unit, and i want to, the first thing that made me want to is the blue tooth streaming

Take a look at the instructions. Several folks have found they don't have the remote XM box behind the glove box. If you empty your glovebox you can tilt it out forward by pushing up on a tab in the glovebox.

Crutchfield has the instructions available on their website.

yea i did, i popped the glove box down afterwards, its not there. so its built in.

i talked to crutchfield support, and they said it wont work, but this one

which also does BT calling will. I already have that option, but i assume this is more seamless because its one BT connection. so its an option

You sure about that one? Reading the discription mentions this....

Important Note: This adapter is not compatible with a factory radio with a built-in XM radio tuner. The XM tuner must be separate.
