Intake doesn't have much of anything to do with exhaust sound. Getting rid of all the extra stuff that the stock intake system has will make your engine compartment louder especially at higher RPM but nothing on exhaust.

I should have clarified a little, i hear from the motor, not from the exhaust, sorry.

I was mainly referencing to his mustang comment with his exhaust. I got what you said. For the most part that's what most people look for in these CAI, they like that sound me included. It does help with adding some MPG but adding the better filters have more to do with that. I replace all my filters with the spectra or K&N drop in filters until I get to a point of getting a full kit. The drop in filters have been tested and have given anywhere from 1-5 MPG on some vehicles also depends on environment.

I will eventually get the Volant kit for my Tahoe. There is a guy that replaced the top cover on the box with plexi glass and it looks sick. That's my plan anyways.

Get an Airaid intake tube and filter, the intake tube is the most restrictive part on the factory setup

I never understood this part. It looks like an old Far Side comic about the only part of the buffalo they didn't use.

Yes, I have used Spectre's Speed filters on all my cars, I love them. Just as nice as K&N at half the price. At least that's my opinion.

A good friend of mine is a mechanic and I was thinking about installing a CAI so I asked him his opinion. He said he has dyno'd several engines with CAI installed (before and after) and did not see any increase in HP. He also said that it will make your engine louder, which I wanted to avoid. He said mechanic friends of his also did not see any increase in HP with CAI.

The newest trucks do not show much of an improvement. The NBS intake tubes leave something to be desired however.

There are some gains to be had with the factory NBS filter box, namely opening up the bottom, but otherwise the real place for improvement is in the tube from the MAF to the TB.
