I never understood this part. It looks like an old Far Side comic about the only part of the buffalo they didn't use.

It is a silencer. Reduces engine noise that can be heard in the cabin, but it really only does that at WOT.

I just installed the Airaid Modular tube and the AEM dry filter. You definalty hear the engine roar and I personally feel that throttle response is quicker. I highly recommend it.

I put an AEM on my previous tahoe and fuel mileage increased, so did throttle response that matched with a free flowing exhaust you'll notice a huge difference in how your SUV changes. I now own a Denali and will be upgrading it as well because these factory intakes are so restrictive.
