Switching into 4 wheel high low auto randomly.

Truck will pick its own 4 wheel drive mode at start up every now in then it says 4 wheel low but the rpms are not high enough. Others it will start out in 4 wheel auto and then if you stop and put in park an switch to 2 wheel you can hear it disengage any ideas????

Very common issue.

Transfer Case Encoder Motor Position Sensor.

You can do it yourself which costs you about $45 or have a shop tell you that you need a new encoder motor which with parts/labor will be upwards of $900.

Don't know why this subject hasn't been stickied before as it has been covered a million times.



If the motor moves positions it's not the motor (because the motor runs) itself which is $$$.

Buy the part above and do the following:
