I have a strange issue with my Tahoe, and just want to see if anyone has any suggestions...

The Tahoe has a 95 TBI with about 200K on it. I suspect the engine may have been rebuilt at one time, as it doesnt knock, smoke or anything else, and has about 50 psi of oil pressure, except at idle in gear, the drops to about 35.

Anyhow, it seems to run out of steam at about 73 mph. It just doesnt want to go any faster. Please understand that I am not trying to speed or anything, but I am perplexed by this. The truck has the following mods...

TBI mods tbi unit with 18 psi spring, CAI, MSD Ignition parts, new fuel pump, and the exhaust fell off at the end of the muffler...(fast mod by the way.) Getting a new exhaust in a week or so, but the prob began before that. It also seems to hunt around when coming off the gas (RPM fluctuates and i swear I almost think i hear gurgling from the lack of exhaust when it does this) and seems to really be pigging the fuel.

I am not sure of the timing, my friend set it by "ear" as we don't have a timing light, and I know no one who has one. It seems to be really powerful until it hits that area of speed, and I can just about floor it, and it makes no difference.

Thanks!

Shawn

It's a 95, it's a *************, light it on fire, do not call the fire dept to put it out, then go get a real truck ...

Also check your timing. You can't set these by "ear", your buddy is a moron. 18PSI is probably too much giving your non existent mods.

Yeah the 96 and up had better PCM, vortec engine, better abs pump/module, better ac, better dash, better transfer case, variable power steering, better stereo system and speakers, etc. I had a 93 and I love my 99 waaaay more.

BTW, maybe your muffler / cat is blocked or clogged.
