My 06 Denali had the same problem, but stuck in the locked position. Did some research and there is a couple of different fixes I've seen. Some report that the little tab that the lower right side cable gets bent out too far and puts stress on the spring/cable and it won't lock/unlock the latch. Some people remove the springs, others bend the tab to free it up. Mine turned out to be the little motor inside the "black box" actuator failed. Had power to it, but would not turn the motor. Seems it was the way my wife had put the baby stroller in was pressing against the plastic trim, which was pushing on the arm to unlock the window latch which probably was just too much for the little motor to turn. Dealers only sell the entire latch assembly plate for $300+. I found a used 04 model in the junkyard for $80.

Got the used 2002 suburban actuator today and installed it but it was different from the one on my 05 yukon denali (you can see in the pic) - I was able to install it anyway and it wokrs fine ( you can see it installed into the bracket in the pic).

It seems like most of these issues I saw online are with 05 and 06 trucks, and it looks like they changed the lock actuator for those years. The good news is that the 01-04 actuators work in the 05s (assuming that the 01-04 actuators are actually better).

Thanks for posting! This seems to be a very common issue with the 05-06 Denali's. So common it just happen to me 2 weeks ago and I have been going crazy trying to figure out how to resolve it. Luckily I came across this site! :)

Unfortunately it seems very difficult to find a part number for this (Rear Hatch Actuator Gizmo). Does anyone know the part number for the 05-06 or even the 01-04 since it seemed to have worked already for a few members....

I would greatly appreciate any assistance.... thanks

I have the same problem on my '04 Tahoe, except I get a message on my info center on my gauges that says replace rear door fuse. Done so numerous times, but it blows the fuse instantly. I figure I'm grounded out somewhere, but haven't had time to look into it. Bothers the hell out of me though.

i just received the new actuator i got from the bay, and got it installed. took all of 5 minute to install, since i already had the trim panel removed. simply 3 bolts and 1 torx screw (held the actuator to the bracket)

saved myself well over $300 bucks

I was having the same problem with mine was well after I installed my new door handles. Did some searching on the web I found a thread about a suburban having the same issue a random website. Come to find out the hatch handle was not made to GM spec (off by a couple of mm). It was not allowing the cable tension to be tight enough. I was able to "modify" the tab on the actuator. It works now so it saved me $$ since I thought I was going to have to buy a new one. Hopefully someone might be able to use this too.

Fixed - Gate would not lock and Glass would not release

01 Yukon: I could hear the Actuator and mechanism working, or trying to, but the gate would not lock and the glass would not release when pressing the button.

The arm at the bottom of the glass push button release was out of alignment and preventing the mechanism from moving into lock position. After removing the cover, it was a simple matter of aligning everything back into the proper position. 30 minutes and $0.

Nice to get lucky for once. ;-)
