ok,11:30 pm here and we test drove friends new suburban and it does the same thing.
all said and done this is the way these trucks operate i suppose, once temp hits 220 the gauge starts to go up a tick and the secondary fan kicks in and cools down the engine.

They are dummy gauges. You don't have to worry about it unless it starts going towards the red. They aren't calibrated. If you want the real temperature use a scan tool of some sort.

I reported earlier in regards to my experience with the temperature gauge going up to about 230 after climbing a 0.6 mile 20 - 40 degree gravel/grass slope in low range. Fan was going full-blast, but it did cool down to 210 after 10 minutes of easy driving.
