As I mentioned in my previous posts, I'm looking to drive a Tahoe from Texas to Montana. I plan to pull a pop up camper and camp with my wife and two young boys. My oldest (4) asks me almost daily about the dinosaur quarry in Utah. I want to take him there.

My questions are this... How reliable and safe would a 05 or 06 be for this trip (about 2k miles)? I see an 06 with 80k miles that is reasonably priced. Also, is the stabilitrak the same in the 06- as the 07+?

I would of course take it to my mechanic to get it checked out first.

Thanks.

Welcome!
The Tahoe/Yukon was made for what you are planning to do! It is perfect for towing a pop-up camper, and has lots of room for the family and their gear. The trucks can tow more, so a regular sized pop-up should be no problem.
80k can be a good mileage, still lots of life left, and not a truck with miles so low it's either suspicious or will have more issues than a high miler cause it has sat around all it's life.
If you can not verify the fluids have been changed, I would have them all changed, and same for the plugs and wires, just buy the stocker AC Delcos for both.
I cannot answer your question about the differences of the Stabilatrak from the body styles. My 06 Denali has it, and it works great on slick roads (really have to try to make it skid, but I'm old and don't beat on my tuck).

Have a safe trip!!

Just took my 05 from Cali to glacier a few months ago. Trip went flawless. The Tahoe was plenty comfy, loaded to the gills with stuff and dogs. Highly recommend hwy 93. A great trip! Good luck.

Pop up behind a Tahoe is easy to pull just make sure the truck is mechanically sound and you will be fine. On a long trip just check the fluid especially if you hit the mountains.

x2 and just making sure the vehicle is in good mechanical condition. A well maintained tahoe should be up to the task and barely break a sweat :waytogo:
