No paint booth. Rattle can primer and paint. Hanging on thin string.

I got certified at a GM training center that also gave me high school & college credits back in the 70s but ended up working on semiconductor equipment after graduating college and still do. Vehicles are my hobby. Recently was gifted a 73 Camaro minus front clip and have started a full build on it.

A couple of weeks ago I repaired/painted the fender on my wife's 2014 SS Sedan. Hope to paint my 1973 Camaro soon.

Tomorrow I'm tearing apart my 2018 Yukon Denali due to AFM failure and putting in a non-AFM cam & LS7 lifters. I already pulled the intake, pushrods (all good), rockers & exhaust bolts. Looks like "fun"

They come painted either flat black or black primer. I have a very fine grit sand paper that I smooth it with. Then clean and let dry. Then grey primer. Then dry and sand smooth. Then clean and dry. Then paint the color one coat and let dry. Then very fine paper sanding and then clean and dry. Then paint a second coat and let dry. There is no clear coat painting. Comes out looking nice. The size is about 14 square inches.

Ok, the left side "bumper filler" piece arrived today and was metal/tin and painted black, just like the right side was. This is for my girl's landlord's son's 96 Tacoma. I smooth sanded it with very fine sand paper, cleaned it real good and then primed with grey and let dry. Then I smooth sanded it again and cleaned and then painted a coat of the dark green paint that is a match for the truck paint code. Let dry and smooth sanded again and then applied the second paint coat and is now dry. I will install tomorrow or Sunday. It has some slight "orange peel" look to it but so did the other side and I am not a painter. He was happy with the right side and will be with this side. I will have pics of both installed as soon as job is done.

I had sent an email to the owner of the business, used car lot, that I worked 6 hours at and quit when I saw the drugged out tech at one shop, allowed to smoke pot thru the day and a recovering alcoholic and meth head that was at the shop at the lot and the filth and clutter and just the haphazard way things were run. In all honesty, if he wanted me to do some work from home remotely and for all cash, I would consider it.

I did get a letter from my VA doctor about some x-rays taken at the VA on the 12th. I thought I had a nerve problem in my right groin but the x-rays say I have arthritis in my right hip and appears to show signs of that caused by an old injury and a couple of discs in my back that show arthritis. I used that info that I got on the evening of the 13th, after I got home from my one and only day of working at the car lot on the 13th. I did not want to say the place is a pig sty and has drugged out loonies working there so I used the VA info to embellish my reason for leaving. He was willing to make all kinds of changes to the business to satisfy any medical needs I may have needed to work there but I told him, not likely.
I then sent an email 2 days ago thanking him for giving me a chance and wished him luck and tried to finalize all contact. Then he responded back with this:

"Thanks Ron. I appreciate the kind words and explanation. When someone leaves after one day I always wonder if problems here were a factor.
I am always evaluating how to make things better, so ideas, even from your short time are welcome and appreciated.
I did fill both positions with people that left for greener pastures and then missed it and wanted to come back.
I liked your vibe and wisdom, so when you are medically up to it, even one day a week, let me know and I would love to have you on the team if I can find a way.
Here is my contact info so we don't loose touch when I take the Craig's List ad down."

The two positions he talks about are service manager and service writer. I was originally interviewing for the service writer position but after the interview he saw I was more qualified for the manager position and he had been wanting to get rid of the existing manager anyway. He hired me as the new service manager and I had said would start on Thursday the 14th but decided to go down on the 13th and the existing manager had that day off anyway. The existing writer was leaving as well. As you can see by his email he sent me, he filled both positions as it turns out. He has history with the two he hired. I do know what I am doing but I cannot and will not work at the facility. Managing flow from home is easy enough. I don't have to talk to customers anyway, just techs and the owner.

In between time, I am taking some meds for the arthritis pain and all seems better and I still plan on working at home and will continue to search for that perfect service writer/manager position. My girl wants to do some traveling and we may be going to Mo. to see my cousin that moved there from Paradise, Ca. Fall is best time for that visit. If I did end up doing remote work for the car lot, I can work from anywhere.
