yup, got the HT383E in mine, for the most part it was a direct replacement. REQUIRED a tune though to really to it to come to life. at the tires it puts down cloe to 400ft/lbs of torque. I am very pleased with the motor. the tranny will go and I will build it up when it does

well my brother lives in modesto so im gonna go out there with a buddy and hopefully drive home with a vortec. BUT I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION... How much work would it take for me to make a 94 lt1 complete motor go in. I got a guy locally that has one sweet ass 94 lt1 and its complete. I mean everything...computer, harnesses hes got it all. What would be involved?

The LT1 should bolt up to the trans just fine and fit right in place of the old engine and work as long as you have the harness and computer for it...you may have to change some coolant/oil cooler fittings but I'm not sure. You'd also need a standalone 4l60e tranny controller if the lt1 computer isn't set up to do it.

To tell you the truth man, it's a whole lot more work than just putting in a new 95-99 vortec motor.

How is the gas milage with that 383 vs the 350 you had in before the swap?

From what i have heard it takes very little to make a LT1 swap work, esp if the doner car has everything you need.I have seen a few S-10's and S-10 Blazers with LT1's in them.Putting one in your Tahoe should be a breeze.

I have had 5 Caprices with the LT1 motors and really liked them. With the money you save you could beef up your tranny and really make things fun.

You could also get a Corvette engine dress kit for that LT1.Think of the looks on peoples faces when they pop the hood on your Tahoe and see a motor that ses Corvette on it lol.

Well I think the LT1 will work without too much hassle. Plus it has more HP than the vortec. Plus the one Im looking at is a beast. Been bored .20 over. all kinda goodnees to it. Now the tuff part. working a deal that fits for me.

Mine had 233k on it when I developed a nasty ticking lifter. Fixed it (so far) and she is back running strong.

I understand the budget thing. I have 3 kids and a mortgage. If the motor goes on the Hoe.....I'm buying a reman motor and installing it myself. So that is my suggestion to you when money is a factor.

What I no about the LT1 is it was a cop motor. Cop car wrecked at 78,000 miles So the guy I no (he works in the pig garage) pulled the motor for his 79 el camino. He then bored it over 20 and ran thru the motor. Silly shit rolled the elcamino and now the motor sits. Looks great. I do no that its stamped on the block 327. How much do you think a reman motor would run me?
