A dry 4L60E with a new 12" converter will hold between 12-13 quarts of fluid, on average. Certain things will change this figure. If you add an auxillary cooler..


where did you get the transmission information only holds 3.5qt?

basically draining the pan is a waste still basically you did nothing... to change the fluid you have to "remove it all first" then install new fluid...
example:
bob was changing his oil 6qt of it, he drained it all changed the filter then refilled with 6 qt....


bob's oil only has 4500 miles and still clean bob then up-cycled his clean used oil into an older car...

We will have to agree to disagree here. I believe, like many others do, that changing ALL of the trans fluid on a used, higher mileage transmission is a bad idea. By changing a smaller portion, I am adding many additives by way of the new fluid, that are depleted in the old, original trans fluid. You don't have to agree and buy into it. As I've said....YMMV....but my factory original trans life speaks for itself.
