Time for new brakes. Help!

OK it's time for new pads and rotors for my 2005 Yukon denali.

Any suggestions on what I should go with? I'm looking for brakes that aren't noisy, affordable and work well. My wheels are stock 17s.

i hear good things about those power stop brake kits on amazon u can either get pads and rotors kit or pads rotors and calipers kit
just a tip if yer pads are worn way down be sure and grab a big c clamp to collapse the rotors

Wagner thermoquiet pads and oem style rotors have worked well for me on my 04. Never hear a peep from them and stop well. Rockauto for best pricing, or O'Reillys if you want the lifetime warranty.

Hi Joshua, I recently did the front binders on my 2001 Yook XL using PowerStop Z23 rotors and pads. These are the drilled and slotted rotors with carbon fiber/ceramic pads. I found the best price to be from Summit Racing as they ship for free over $100 and they were $134.95. RockAuto was the same price but shipping was about $25. What brake kit you should get depends on the type of driving you do and the terrain. The Z23 kit is a good setup for lots of braking in traffic or hilly twisty roads. They need to get a bit hot before the get that initial "bite" but then they stop very well, much better than stock. If you are driving in normal low speed traffic and highway conditions where the brakes will cool down a lot the standard plain rotors and pads will work best IMHO. They have a quicker initial bite and are more linear in the relationship of pedal pressure to braking effect. The Z23s have better braking but are a little slow to bite around town. Its not a problem, just something to get used to. I just leave braking to a bit later so they heat up and bite. If your using the brakes a lot they will be the way to go as they will stay relatively hot. The Z23s also do not seem to score the rotors and they are quite clean, I have not noticed any brake crud at all.

If you are considering replacing the calipers as well you might as well get NNBS brakes. Just need the loaded calipers that come with the bracket and it all bolts right in.

Better front calipers and bigger rotors with more pad material.

I replace my rotors with Powerstop drilled and slotted rotors. I purchased them from "Brakemotive" on eBay. They were actually cheaper than stock replacement rotors. For pads, I went with Wagner Thermoquiet Ceramic pads. They stop far better than stock, have zero noise, and almost zero brake dust.
I also have experience with the Powerstop brake pads that they usually sell as a package deal with the rotors. I bought a set for my wife's car because she has a very heavy foot. They do stop as good as the Wagners, but the have a tremendous amount of brake dust. I had them on her car for almost a year before I bought mine, that's why I decided to try the Wagner Thermoquiet pads instead of the Powerstop pads, and I'm VERY glad that I did!

Also: make damn sure that you use a heavy duty thread locker like Loctite on the caliper bracket bolts!! I had an accident about 5 years later because a caliper bolt backed out while I was cruising on the highway. I had pretty major damage, destroyed a wheel and tire, busted a shock and ripped a brake hose off. But it could have been MUCH worse if I had failed to maintain control when the wheel exploded. When the caliper came loose it rubbed on the inside of the wheel and cut the wheel open like a tin can.

I found EBC brake pads when building custom motorcycles and use them exclusively now for everything. Their green pads are the best IMO. The ones on my Denali have zero dust and stop extremely well In all conditions. Kinda expensive but well worth it.
