My shift servo finally came in the mail today, so I was thinking about changing the trans fluid and filter while I was under the tahoe. I have heard many horror stories of people changing it and then the trans ***** out a few days later. I bought the truck with 131k on it, has 142k right now. The fluid looks nice and pink, doesnt smell or appear burnt. Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks guys and gals.

I got my truck with 119k on the clock. I put in the servo. 3 weks later i pulled the pan and did the filter. I pulled the cooler line and changed all the fluid. Put 3 k on it since with out a problem. Only regret is i put in rp. Never shoulf have spend the extra $$$ on it. Any dex 6 is fine i think. I wanted to.do the .490 boost valve and the alluminum accumulators/pistons but couldnt find enough info to be confident. I will probly do those in the spring.
What ever you do.i would not recomend a flush.
Good luck

Fyi when i pulled my pan down the oil level was lower then the top of the pan so.there was now slosh over or.real.mess if your carefull.

Thank you for moving it. I wasnt sure if general discusion or tech was the right place. . . now i know LOL :sorrysign: . Anyway, I changed the servo today, very simple to do. Hardest part was the putting the stupid cover and heat shields back on. Well worth the money, shifts much much better! I will probably change the fluid in a few weeks. Thanks for the reply :hands:

If it gives you peace of mind, then change it. I think the horror stories come from FLUSHING the trans.

Can I ask what servo you changed? My 03 shifts HARD from 1-2, and I don't care for it much

Its a corvette 2nd apply servo. They are very inexpensive and easy to swap. just takes a little patients.

I just hate not knowing what the person before me did for service. That is really the only reason I want to change it. You will know if it didnt work in a couple weeks when I am rebuilding the trans with a monster in a box trans kit:)

I am facing the same thing with my 02 - 189K miles.... Should I or shouldn't I.... I'd hate to create a problem I don't have but it sure could shift better and if thats the original fluid....

What you guys calling a flush? Don't you want to clear out the converter and cooler as well as what's in the tranny? Are you just draining the tranny through the pan and refilling what is removed?
