You won’t wet sand that out, no way. That needs new paint. Maybe if it was just a few light scratches but that’s fu*ked brother. Looks like someone was carrying shit up there for a long time. Without a roof rack, just tying it to the roof. What kind of a life did it have before you bought it? Was the PO doing construction? That’s some serious damage, done over a long time.
It belonged to a real estate company. They used it for the business and to shuttle customers/buyers around. When I pulled the roof rack off--maybe 2 yrs ago?--there was no damage that I saw. It's crazy. Wonder if wrap would be cheaper then paint?

If you wrap it yourself it will be a lot cheaper might have to sand down anything that’s deep so the wrap looks good if your taking that to a shop your looking around 1k easily, when I had my 95 Tahoe I had the windshield replaced had the rack pulled, all the holes welded up and repainted it this was idk like 6 years ago or so and that was around $1,600 iirc and that was a good 500-600 cheaper then most other shops

You had gotten a good price. I don't think I'd ever attempt it myself.

Not sure how long you can be without the truck for but if you have any tech schools that do bodywork down there you could save a lot I’ve had a couple of them do work on the OBS Tahoe & Mustang I used to have you just pay for paint and materials and labor was $10 an hour and they do great work the teacher is always there to make sure they don’t screw it up

How'd they come out? Did they have it for months?

That’s the thing, the two tech schools I used here like to have the same class/kids working on so it all depends how often that class is every day or 3 days a week or what, but for the Tahoe I had them paint the rear bumper, grille surround, rear pillar trim but all of that I dropped off and picked up when it was ready the Mustang had a hole in the trunk they welded up and fixed up the rear 1/4 panel there was a big dent in it, that took a few wks your roof shouldn’t be that bad sand, prime, paint & clear, and everything came out mint and lasted for years

I'm with you on this one, as my 05 has just started this too. I waxed it last fall and there was a few tiny spots like yours, but now most of the roof, the top of the passenger door, and hood are screwed. And it happened in less than 4 months.
All scratched like that? Did you zoom in on those pictures? His has a zillion scratches going every direction. Have pics of yours?

I don't really think they're all scratches, more like checking of the clear coat from the heat and sun. Ever see damaged paint on the hood after a small underhood fire? How the paint gets checked and cracks from the heat?
