My .02
I wouldn’t want him to do it in a rush even though you want your truck back and he may be behind because he took on work over and above what he promised you. If he rushes and misses important stuff it may still not turn out well if he gets done in two weeks. If you like and trust him I would say two weeks is fine if he doesn’t rush. If it takes three but he does it right would that hurt?

Just thinking out loud.
Agree. If you go back in 2 weeks and he's not 100% complete BUT he's made substantial progress and can see the light at the end of the tunnel the give him some slack of whatever makes sense with the remainder of work that is left at that time. At some point, the kid will have to just recognize he may have to put in more hours to get the work load back to a manageable level which means getting your job (and possibly others) out the door and retain happy customers. I wonder if any other vehicles are in that shop and have been their too long due to deadlines which have not been met.

I think you made the right choice at this moment in time. If you went into this knowing the kid, liking the kid and trusting the kid than keep to that......for this moment in time......With that said, if we're still in this spot in 2 or 3 weeks then strongly consider taking legal action and find a different shop that you trust to do the job competently.
I think so too. I'd never take legal action against the kid--I just wouldn't do that, plus he's helped me out a TON of times too. He really is a good kid who I think bites off more then he can chew at times. He did hire a guy, so that's a plus. I just think of it as a situation where you have to put a boot to the ass--then carry on. Hopefully I'm explaining myself correctly. Good kid, I still like him, but I think he's a ****** businessman. I never make a promise I can't keep.
that movie was hilarious...... every contractor told him 2 weeks. laughed and sped off. and even at the end it was still a pig with lipstick.

tom hanks loosing his mind is classic

Awesome movie--funny AF!
Sounds to me like he took work after he already told you a time and trying to get those “quicker jobs” done before he takes care of you...my 2cents! DO NOT LIKE!

100% correct--BUT--I talked to him today and I think/hope I got my point across to him.

Agreed. I'm not gonna be a total ass to him, and he has put in all nighters to get a job done, so I know he's capable of it. Matter of fact, he finished my 1st motor around 5 am. Even if it was linger then 2 weeks, but I saw the motor was in--something was getting done--I think I'd feel good about it.

I'm a man of my word, I did tell him 2 weeks--so 2 weeks it'll be. I don't like when people are hounding me--I don't want to be that guy--to a point that is!

I make it a point to go to or call my machine shop every week. Its annoying to him and me but its effective.

With a little luck in 2 weeks we might be hearing some cam chop. :Big Laugh:

Unreal . That pisses me off. I feel like since he knows you and that you’re a level headed and also patient man that it’s ok to take more time because you’re “buddies”
He would’ve said 2 weeks, I would said 1 week or it’s a no go. I’ve seen motors pulled and replaced in a weekend in backyards before, this dude has a legit shop at his disposal. curious without looking back , is he hooking you up with a crazy good price for the work ? Cause I’ve seen that scenario played out way too many times.
And lastly could be worse, my buddy sent his bagged truck to be worked on at a shop......6 years ago and still hasn’t moved from the same spot , from 6 years ago. Not a wrench has been turned on it. And all the work has been paid in full, around $15k. They “were” friends.

$500 labor for the motor job. That's not including parts. That's a great price, so that's a big reason to be patient. No one around here would do what he's gonna do for under $2k.
