I was told it's the tc. Sometimes it'll delay going into drive. Trans guy told me sounds like the tc. Trans is fine for now, but you know, once the tc let's go....shows over!
I’m assuming torque converter, not transfer case since it’s a van lol. I have heard about the tc issue with the 4l80’s, it’s not separate like the 4l60’s so when it needs replaced usually the trans gets rebuilt. Either way, sucks. Tahoe doing ok?

Ahh, so the tc's are an issue! I didn't know if he was bs'ing me or not. He was gonna replace the tc and front pump, but he was gonna charge me $1300! And it's a side job for him. I'm getting a fully rebuilt trans, with some upgraded parts to pull around all the weight that I have in it(tools, materials etc) for $1350. It would be $150 less the core charge, but the trans is still good, so I'm gonna try to recoup some of the funds. Another reason why I need to get it done asap. Gotta pay my son $300 to install--which ****** me off. I don't expect him to do it for free. As a matter of fact I was going to offer him $300, even if he said no charge. The part that ****** me off is he came up with a price at all! Maybe I'm being stupid about it.......

Forgot to mention the Tahoe. Running good, but in the past week I've gotten that reduced engine power a few times. It hasn't reared its ugly head for awhile too. Sux. Also cosmetically it's starting to look like sheet. Clear on the roof gave up the ghost, and that rust spot on the dog leg is getting worse. Wish I had the $$ to get it all fixed--oh, both lower sill plates are starting to get rust spots too. Salt sux a$$!

I think it was Wes @Doubeleive who had a go-around with his 4l80, or was it a 6l80... anyway he was having issues with his torque converter and trans. Seems like he had to take it back several times.

on mine they had to change out the clutch pack with a different brand after trying to figure out what was wrong they found a bunch of complaints for the same thing I was experiencing from people using that particular brand/part they had installed

It all sounds pretty expensive, bludy transmissions!! They're all good until they tish themselves. Then they're just a pain in the proverbial!!
Used to knock around with a guy who owned a transmission shop. Watching and talking to the boys while they were working on different jobs made it look so easy!
Lol probably just like me chopping up sausages :happy175:

Pros make anything look easy.
I just had a thought--what if this guy rips me off and just gives me a used transmission with a cleaned case!!?? He's just a random guy from CL who says he rebuilds transmissions.....

So they ended up pulling the trans to fix that huh. Was yours a 4l80 of 6l80? And it was just a totque converter failure originally, right?
