Too Soon For Synthetic?

Good morning-I have a 2011 5.3 4wd with about 4K on the engine, and wanted to switch early to synthetic oil but had heard or some problems with this engine with syns (cylinder deactivation?)

Also, heard that one should wait till 8-12k on dyno oil as the engine is fully broken in by then. I know Corvettes (and others) come synthetic out of the box, but was wondering what the latest consensus was for 2010-11 owners (and I used the search function w/o much luck).

I was thinking they started putting synthetic, or possibly a syntech blend, in them out the door these days? Could just be something I am making up though.

Either way, switch when you want to switch and just stick with it. I've run synthetic oil in engines both much more complex (and, picky, if you will) and much simpler w/o any problems.

I switched at to synthetic at 30k and now i'm at 38k with 30% oil left

i use it. Mine goes about 7k before its time for a oil change.

Oil life seems to work fine. I have a 5.3 in my Impala and it has been running synthetic since about 1k miles, it has 51k now.

Oil life all depends on climate and duration of your trip. I don't think it knows what oil you are putting in your car, just how cold/warm it is and how often the engine is started.

i change my oil evry 3000 no matter what truck says...its just how i have always done it since i was young...yuo guys think its fooish of me being the tahoe can tell you %

Both my 2010 Denali and my 03 Vette came with synthetic.
