I just flipped through an article in the June issue of Chevy High Performance. Specifically their article on top end kits titled "Top Brawn".
I picked it up because I figured, a small block 350 is a small block 350.
But all the kits they show seem to be for carburated engines.

Searching in the past I couldn't find a performance intake manifold for our TBI motors. And none of these kits had a TBI manifold. Also one of these kits used Vortec heads.
If I remember correctly(I have horrible memory) I've read that there is no need to swap out either our heads or intake manifold as they are already a great combination. I've heard of swaps for marine manifolds, but I'm pretty sure that won't be legal here in California.

Is this true and there is no need to search for a top end kit, or have some of you found a set up that improved your power?

What year sis your truck?? If it's Pre 96 there are TBI intakes but they are expensive. You can swap Vortec heads on a 95 but you will need an intake that will work, and those TBI + Vortec are even more money.

I'm pretty sure nothing is legal in CA. :p

Nothing is legal in Cali. Not my truck not my guns not my political views.

But any way. It's a 1998. It's already equipped with Vortec 5.7L. I'd like to know if there is an upgrade from this that's worth the money.

Fastburn aluminum heads or eldebrock e-tec heads. There are no intakes for our besides marine and yes Cali does not like them it has no egr set up.

If there is no real power advantage from these though, as in price is worth the power, I'm thinking I'll just do an Edelbrock or CompCams cam in addition to the full on MSD ignition set up I'll be doing.

You get gains.I believe edelbrock states gains of 20hp 15ftlbs over the fastburns heads which show solid gains of 30hp on our motors. So with the etec heads you would be looking at 50 hp and around 40 ftlb. I went the fastburn heads for my warranty on the new block if not for that I would have the etecs. Then there is the weight gains to be had I couldn't believe the diffrence. With a new cam and 1.6 rockers in those heads you would see a serious gain to me worth the effort. If you going in as deep as a cam do the a whole kit and be done. The etec are around 1200 for the set and the fastburns are about 1400.

I have heard of people finding a way to bolt on an EGR for the marine manifolds.
You also have the option of going custom.

He converted a TBI vortec manifold to MPFI that fits snug on top of our motors. The best part is you keep all your emissions AND everything bolts up in the factory location.
All you need are a little wiring skills, TB, injectors, and a few fittings.

961500,
What kind of power are you making? I was just looking over your sig, looks pretty healthy. What cam are you runnin?
Do the 1.6 rockers bolt in without mods?

No mods for 1.6 ratios I have yet to dyno but with what I have I would guess right at 400-425 to be conservative. Ordered LTs and will have new 2.5 exhaust by may with xpipe. Will check with BB and may retune to take full advantage of new mod. Hope to dyno this summer July timeframe.Went with comp cam 262/264 nice sound and still streetable. Keep in mind I'm a reg cab swb not a tahoe so she moves to say the least!

Thanks for the info man, I appreciate it.
I posted this a few months ago , a little inspiration that these trucks are able to move. Granted its a fully built and blown runner, but its still a 2dr Hoe :) http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8781

Checked in with Kevin over at HRS, its $950.
That was a quote he gave me a little over a year ago. I've been debating this mod for a while to say the least. The funny thing is, I just sent him another email to. To get more recent info and quotes.
