Torsion bar question

I've found and printed off a lot of info on here about torsion bar adjustments. My question is. After I did the 3" body lift (and it may be unrelated I mean I did buy my hoe with 160k miles on it) a week later I heard this metal on metal thumping sound when I turned right. After a few days, its all the time. I had already bought new pads and calipers to do to my hoe today so I went back up to autozone. After we looked around we noticed immediately that the suspension bump stop on the driver side was pretty much gone. The passenger side was mushed in. So after having autozone tech and my auto tech they both said that the previous owner torqued down the torsion bars to lower the front end. Like its 1.5" below stock. They told me I need to crank it up to put a gap for those bump stops to not touch. So I bought new ones. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm about to tackle it in a few hours so any advice would be helpful!

I just replaced my stops last week. One of them was torn all up the other was showing signs of deteration. This is on a truck with 150k on it. They are very easy to replace. Jack the truck up, use a flat screwdriver to pry out the old. Press the new ones in with your hand, if you need to, use the screwdriver to pop the stop past the tabs.
You can tighten the torsion bolts some to raise it up a bit. I'm not sure what the stock ride height from the factory should be.

i need to take another look at mine, but i want to say mine are nowhere close to touching like that

Well I did it. Mine were squashed. What a simple thing to do that fixed a lot going on with my truck. I used some tips on here and did 8 turns on each bolt which jacked it up 2". Now there is clearance on those stops. The ones I got at autozone were generic with a bolt so I've got to get new ones but now that they aren't touching its not a huge issue. I really can't believe how easy this was haha.

Yea it's not hard at all. Raising it up that much you should probably get an alignment done to correct camber that will cause uneven wear on the tires.

Actually at stock height they are supposed to touch. It's actually part of the suspension dampening. I've worked on plenty of theses trucks and majority of them have worn out bumpstops but once they are replaced the truck rides so much better.

Actually at stock height they are supposed to touch. It's actually part of the suspension dampening. I've worked on plenty of theses trucks and majority of them have worn out bumpstops but once they are replaced the truck rides so much better.

Mine are literally destroyed on my 02 (214K). I didn't know they would make that big a difference on a stock height truck. Maybe I'll switch them out for ***** and giggles if they are that easy.

I kinda need to rephrase my last statement. It won't help make it ride better but it will have more control. It helps to dampen the initial bouncyness of the torsion bars. So it will feel more in control over smaller bumps.

They are easy to change. It's just hard to swallow spending almost $60 to replace 2 foam bumpers. I've never seen the Autozone ones but if they are harder than the OEM ones then it will defeat the purpose of them. If they are too hard it will ride like crap.

Hmmmmmmm..... Yeah, I assumed it would only ride better during bump transitions. If the suspension isn't being compressed, they aren't being used.
I'll have to pay better attention and see what my truck is doing over bumps. I don't think its bottoming out so its not been bothering me yet. It just bothers me to see them all tore up whenever I am down there (like when I rotated my tires and lubed the front end on Saturday). I don't like seeing stuff on the truck tore up like that. It makes me sad.

When they are brand new they are touching. I don't have an exact measurement of how much they should be touching but I assume that since you have 214k miles that your bars have sagged some. So im sure your truck could benefit from a small crank on the front bars. Maybe NORCAL SS knows what an OEM fender height should be.

But since they are touching they are involved in the dampening of any bump no matter how small.
