I recently purchased an 07' Yukon with a 5.3L with tow package. I towed my 3400LBS travel trailer and my temp went from 210 - 225 up hills. Is this normal operating temp for GM or is it warm. Flat land went back to 210. Thsnks

Bigger concern when towing is your tranny temp. Not sure if the NNBS Yuk (not Denali) have that readout on the DIC. But, if you do, monitor that when towing. If you get over 220, I'd begin to worry. I've towed a boat/trailer at #4000 in near 100 deg and my tranny gets up to 200, but not much over.

You engine temp isn't bad, seems like your thermostat is opening and doing it's job. For a little piece of mind, you could add a coolant additive like Purple Ice or similar. I use it every summer in my vehicles.

Thanks. I do have tranny temp and it hit about 228 but also dropped temp with the engine.

Was in Death Valley with a new 2014 Yukon XL, and on the way out the tranny temp got up to 210, I was surprised, not towing anything... Just had 6 passsengers (includes driver) and baggage...

Do you have a transmission cooler?

I'm a pretty new Tahoe owner myself but researching these forums I've come to the consensus that short spikes around 220-230 are ok up hills and such. I can't find the exact thread to link but I believe it has been said that anything above 230 is cause for concern. If you don't have a transmission cooler installed look into that. They aren't very expensive and are pretty easy to install. After that you shouldn't have to worry about anything.

While 3,400 lbs shouldn't be a problem for our trucks to haul the travel trailers are usually boxy and also create a lot of wind drag which essentially adds 'weight.' Make sure you have the tow button pushed, drive easy, and monitor your temps. Install the tranny cooler and you've got nothing to worry about.

Yea id say add a nice sized cooler if you will be doing this during the summer. Get a cooler that will let cool fluid bypass to warm up then cool it when it thinks out. I forget the type/make of this cooler but should be easy to google search.

take a look at my thread. im not saying what i did was right, but pay attention to the trans temps with the weight i was towing. thats where i would worry more. also look and see if u have a trans cooler. my tahoe also has a (trailering pack) . so they say. was not the same package as my 2010 silverado i had.
