Towing wobble

Yeah I was watching some videos on the 6l80 and they swapped to a 4l80 for lots of horsepower they added to the engine. I live in Indiana so a lot of the roads are flat. This makes sense to just tow in 3rd now I appreciate the advice. So did the 14 bolt rear end ever come in 373s for the rear end that’s what I am gonna look at next.

Not in a wagon. But you can always put them in.

So let me ask u guys this. If I have it in fourth and it stays in fourth is that bad for it too? Or just the switching from 4 to od the part that’s bad?

Kinda both. Excessive gear hunting while towing will fry the clutches.

But even just leaving it in 4th is stressing out those small planetaries. When I was towing heavy with my 01, I always locked out overdrive.

Lots of good advice here. I was just on the CAT scale Tuesday on the way to hunting towing my 5400Lb camper. Download the CAT app to your phone and put in your credit card so it is set up. When you drive on the scale just make sure each axle is on a separate pad (actually my tandem axle camper has both axles on one pad). Open the app and put in the scale number which is right on the number board and bam, you get a weight sent to you in 10 seconds. It's easy. I use an equalizer hitch and have no problems. You will see I am only 200Lb below my GVWR, but it comes with the territory.

So I got my trailer weighed it’s 5700 lbs dry. I noticed I didn’t air up my shocks past 100 lbs and I had a little better ride. The wind was blowing pretty bad but other than that I felt more confident while driving. So what would be the best axle to get for the rear I have the 10 bolt 373s. Thanks again

3.7 rear axle ratio would tow better.... You also can beef up your 10 bolt rear end.
I didn't see if you are 2wd or 4wd... So you'd have to change your front gear ratio too.

At 5700 lbs you are fine with stock 10 bolt. You can replace the differential portion
of it with helical gear type diff and that will fix the weak point in the G80 Differential..
I bought all the parts to do mine last year (haven't had time to do it yet) , but in the
meantime I located a 9.5" rear diff with very low mileage at smokin hot deal..
Your stock 10 bolt axles are fine. they are not the weak point.
Just remember that your RPMs will climb some with the 3.7 gears if you are
going to be towing in 3rd gear.

Yeah mines 4wd. That 5700 was no gear in it. I’m pretty sure it was around 6500 with all the crap we brought with us. In third the rpm’s where less than 3 pretty much the whole way until we got to some hills. But it towed rather well. I never towed something that long and that heavy down the interstate so I was a little more confident.
