OK well I have found some very interesting information that might help some GM hybrid and possibly just regular ole GM Truck vehicles with Brake issues.

This is not a vacuum assist system like in the old days, it is a GM Electro-Hydraulic ABS system. There is a supply and return line from the master cylinder reservoir down to the ABS assembly under the truck tucked up beside the frame rail under the drivers seat area. This ABS assembly includes a high pressure pump/accumulator/valve body and a control module. This assy controls all brake boost/Stabiltrac and ABS. There is a control module with solenoids mounted onto this assy that is easily removable and that is what was bad on mine. It had a seal leak at the top and had gotten water inside which over a period of time ruined the solenoids. It had been leaking long enough that the chrome coating on the solenoids had rusted off in some areas!

Apparently GM's ABS Assembly supplier for these particular parts was not real good at making a 100% gasket seal on their parts. Every time you drive in the rain the part is exposed to moisture this is a BIG TIME mess up on the part of the the supplier! Not sure but I think it is a TRW Kelsey-Haynes supplied part?

When I got the old ABS Control module off it had obvious water damage on the solenoid assemblies on the inside. The seal at the top had been leaking for a very long time and destroyed (shorted) the solenoids. I guess the DTC codes are pretty darn accurate LOL.

Apparently this is a common design throughout the GM truck/utility vehicles in the 2008 / 2009 and maybe up to around 2013. The Chances of mine being the only ABS control module with a gasket seal leaking like this is highly unlikely. Probably thousands out on the road with the exact same issue, they will have a brake issue soon if they have not already!

Anyway I found a used 2009 Tahoe Hybrid ABS assembly (entire assembly) at a local junkyard. Bought it today for $256.00 tax included and swapped the ABS control module off it to my valve body. Took less than a hour. Note: I had ordered a new ABS control module from rock auto at $199.00 but canceled that order this morning because I was afraid that I would have to go to the dealer to get it flashed to match the vehicle.

That dealer flash process would have added a lot of time and cost (probably $100.00 min to flash at dealer?) Just be careful to double check your RPO code if a Hybrid it will most likely be a J92 RPO Code for 7,700 lb active brakes. It seems to be very happy coming from a nearly identical Hybrid into mine so no dealer reflash required.

I have driven around for about an hour and all DTC codes and dash lights are out and it drives normally. So far so good, knock on wood.

Got some pics here...........if you want more pics let me know and I will send them to you. I am going to keep the junkyard assembly for a while until I make sure everything is 100%.

Yes, there’s companies that specialize in rebuilding ABS valve bodies. I remember buying one for my daughters VW Passat. It’s not just a GM problem. Probably the same few companies making them for all the auto makers, just like airbags.

the sloppy brake power was from faulty brake pads and faulty tires (side wall patched that ended up forming a bubble aka Tire separation )they really did sell a legit unsafe SUV..

it can stop very fast now new pads and resurfaced rotors. replacement tires as well .. after replacement of that faulty tires the SUV is much more stable over bumps and small bumps...

i put used tires saving up for new ones i only got like 500 saved but it will cost about $800 for a new set :(

they should in fact pay for replacement tires and for the brake work (and return my money for the GPS device)as the ones installed were legit unsafe for road use... it opens them up to massive amount of liability... i'm still trying to recover some money from the bond they are putting up a good fight "so they don't have to pay".....

I thought you had already replaced your brakes after the whole incident of not being able to stop a few months ago.

Good luck on getting anything from the dealer on the tire failure or worn brakes. They had a used vehicle with used tires and brakes and you bought a used vehicle with used tires and brakes.

My guess is the vehicle had the original pads and rotors when you bought it with around 85K on it, if I recall. The dealer, to my knowledge, is not obligated to put new wear parts like pads or rotors or tires on the vehicle, unless California has some law I am not aware of.

Sounds like you didn’t do your due diligence and look it over good when you bought it or you might have caught that the brakes were shot and the tire was bad. Sidewalk patches are pretty easy to see, albeit very rare.

Either that or all your aggressive precision driving maneuvers that you have made avoiding the other idiots on the road have worn your brakes down and they just got to the point on the front that they needed to be replaced.

yeah i did

no the tire was bubbled since i bought it.. they put old tires from 2010 it was clearly a old set that were laying around for a while..

clearly they negligently put the old broken tires on the suv

they also hide the date code to the inner tire
so it could not be seen

and it's a known industry standard NOT to use patches on the side wall. tire must be destroyed . as a bubble will forum, it creates HUGE liability and they are liable because of negligence .. i just was lucky it did not pop in the 10k miles it was on the suv

the dealer is liable as it did not meet California safety inspection standards that is Required before sale... Yes a full inspection is required before sale per the dealers Contractual agreement with the state of california to sell Vehicles...

YES we have pre sale inspection requirements

that includes the tires and brakes, lights smog test etc..

Fail Smog
Dry wall screws are not a factory installed equipment for smog equipment filler neck (Automatic Fail) requires retest at a 3rd party station..

Failed inspection...

tires deemed unsafe

Brake and Light inspection

Failed light inspection (2 bulbs out)

Failed rear Brakes non functional .

not only that they lied on the title for the mileage they listed under penalty of perjury(Felony btw) as 840,057 miles as being the actual..

fraud

it was listed as being "Safety OK"

it does not matter they did not fill out a IRS forum 8300... If i don't get anything back soon i;ll just report it as they are money laundering and they will get a jail time and/or a fine out of it plus it's going to open them up to a IRS audit...

California does have a law regarding brakes when purchased from a dealer they have to be a certain MM thickness not sure what the spec is, and there may also be a law on the amount of tire tread (not sure) the brake pads are a thing, my sister bought a car here and took it to Oregon and the dealer never filed the DMV paperwork so she found out about this brake pad law during the process of trying to get the dealer to get the paperwork done and having the vehicle inspected while in Oregon the brakes were shot, 4 different tires, it supposedly had the transmission rebuilt (it wasn't) she had a hell of a time, got ticketed for not having it registered in Oregon within the time frame she had to fight with the dealer and Ca.DMV and Oregon DMV. Took several months to finally get it all taken care of.

0 mm thickness it was metal to metal they rigged it so it would not work at all(by seizing the caliper with hydrogen peroxide, vinger and salt water solution this will simulate 5-10 years of rusting with in a day or two) though it was not tell the engine stalled out that the rigged brakes(seized caliper ) broke free from what they done to it

with the new pads I can stop from 50- 60mph

15-30 feet before the cross walk(without leaving tire tracks)

before with the broken rear brakes(did not work at all or do anything) about 10 feet passed the crosswalk... it's quite the difference

Interesting. I have learned something. Thank you.

Guess here in Iowa it is completely a buyer beware situation. I am not aware of any State mandated requirements for this type of stuff. I have just grown up with the mindset that it’s my job, not the seller’s, to make sure I know what I am buying. I have paid for oil changes so I can see the oil coming out of the oil pan. This has killed more than one sale. I have pulled wheels so I can see the condition of the brakes. Back in 2000, I pissed off one Ford dealership by taking a car I was looking at to another Ford dealership, that had a mechanic I trusted, to get the car inspected which ended up killing that sale.

you also get a free warranty and when they put the 840k they pretty much voided the warranty (under the civil code) that buy here pay here places are required to give you a 30day 1k warranty...
