I had my TPMS replaced about a month ago, and ever since it was done my 2 driver side tires have been leaking air around the valve stem. I finally got around to taking into a shop to have them fixed, since the Chevy dealership here can't fix them because of the size of the rim. Anyway, long story short the guy broke 2 of his TPMS valve stems trying to get them in. He told me I needed a bolt in stem for the sensor. He had to take the sensor out of the one rim to fix it with a regular bolt in valve stem. So now I'm riding around with the stupid tire light now. Anybody else run into this problem? Now where I can get "bolt in" valve stems that work with GM TPMS?

Sucks Avery but I have NO CLUE what you are talking about. Seems like the people who did this are just some amateurs.
I have heard of TPMS service kits that come with new parts that connect to the sensors (new stems included) but the only places I know where to get them are Discount Tire and Les Schwab, not sure if any of those are in NC?

Thanks, I'll check out discount tire. There are a few here, but the closest one is about 2 hours away. Guess I'll give them a call and see what they advise before I drive up there.

They are bullshitting you and don't know WTF they are talking about!

Is your TPMS Light ON or FLASHING?

Light ON means thats your TP is off either running low or too high.

Flashing Means the car is not detecting a signal from a sensor.

Any tire installer SHOULD NEVER remove the TPMS unless they are replacing it or to refreshin it with a TPMS kit. You need a 10mm socket to remove the TPMS from the rim as well as install a TPMS kit. TPMS kit is a new valve sleeve and a few gaskets to refreshen the TPMS itself. The gaskets are prone to crack and will leak air. Dealer Recommends EVERY time you change your Tires, YOU must refreshen it the TPMS sensors with a KIT. Of course it run a flat or a blow out within a low mileage variation then don't do it.

Its more like a preventative maintence thing. I don't recommend going to the dealer for any of this! Any major tire company like SEARS sells TPMS kits.

$5.00 for the kit made by DILL and $5 to install it. DILL is OEM approved, they sell kits and replacement TPMS sensors.

PLEASE do not put metal caps on a TPMS sensor, there are plastic caps there for a reason! Metal cap will fuse to the metal TPMS valve due to heat and rust. Once that happens you F'd and you will need to replace the whole unit.

Any reputable shop should be able to get a TPMS valve stem into just about any wheel. Sounds like they didn't know what they were doing...
