I see that the new sierra will mate the 8 speed with 5.3. Hopefully they will continue to develop and improve this transmission

Is that the same 8 speed that the 6.2 used? I don’t understand why they don’t just use the 10.

We rented an Acadia around 2009, very nice and figured when the time was right we'd replace our Montana with one. It was built as the replacement for the GM minivans. The time came for another vehicle and test driving some newer ones, while nice, they seemed too small. Or maybe I'd just gotten rounder! I went and bought a Yukon instead. Now I can man spread and wear my Sam Houston hat inside the truck, like the Montana.

None are perfect and some less so than others. Issues like the OP described just have to be worked out or a smaller, simpler platform chosen which will not test one's patience.

Consumers ought to push back against the government over these ridiculous CAFE standards and remove them completely or curtail them greatly. They used to not even apply to trucks, which is one reason why people began to buy them. AFM and 14-speed transmissions that keep the engine in the same narrow rpm band are a great and needless expense consumers are saddled with because of this lunacy.

I think consumers should push for higher standards.

My 6.2 8 speed is awesome. 0-50 in 5.5 and I get 20+ mpg on the highway.

The lazy asses in Detroit would be trying to sell us 8L 5 speeds getting 12mpg if consumers didn’t press the govt to create things like cafe standards.

You thought the acadia was small back then? It was the largest crossover money could buy. Now it’s even smaller. Lol not sure about your rant on transmissions because the Acadia still only has a 6. The V6 is pretty quick too. They’re actually kind of fun to drive. My friends have a new one that I just spent some time in this weekend.

False premise. Consumers did not petition the government for CAFE standards. You're confusing communists with consumers again dude. Liberals go to government to force their desires onto the rest of us. Regular folks tell the companies what they want and vote with their wallets/pocketbooks.

I liked the Acadia, it was a might smaller than my Montanas which the Acadia was designed to replace. The problem with the Acadia when it came time to buy one was not the Acadia, it was me! I'd gotten larger! The seat belt was not comfortable and I could not wear my hat while sitting inside like I can with the other two.

It is my opinion that this quest for every increasing gears in transmissions is akin to AFM, government mandates run amok. 4 and 6 speeds are fine, the extra gears in the 6L80/90s are to get the load moving and for towing a load at speed. That kind of stuff is fine when consumer driven. What are the advantages for 8 and 10 forward gears now to justify its complexity and cost?

When we’re all driving electric vehicles, they’ll only have one gear, lol.

I'd drive a diesel electic. I've driven diesel electric trains, GP-38s and GP-7s and been aboard diesel electric subs and destroyer escorts, now museums across the nation.
