trans pump roaring and Reverse is gone!!

2004 yukon denali AWD 110,000 miles. today my wife was coming home from work and her car started to make a loud roar. Well its seems to be the transmission pump and now reverse does not work. The truck has never shown any hint of transmission problems before so could this be just the pump needing to be replaced or does it sound like an entire transmission rebuild? Please help?

so would the converter going out cause me to loose reverse?

That I am not sure about, someone else will probably chime in with more transmission knowledge, but I would say that it's hard to tell what is going on until it's cracked open

pump going out would be the biggest reason you lost reverse. if you were going forward when the pump went it doesn't have any pressure to shift so you wont get any other gears.

Unless that loud roaring is the sun shell broke and that would also kill your reverse.



Do you still have all forward gears? If that’s a yes I would be willing to condem the sunshell.
