I finally gave up due to lack of time and the need to get my 2005 Suburban 1500 back on the road, and had it towed to a transmission shop to rebuild the 4660e. I am now being told it needs a replacement Transmission Control Module... Anyone else had to replace one of these yet? When I originally connected my Tech II to it, the error indicated was transmission solenoids. I never had time to tear into it, but a friend who used to be a GM mechanic indicated it was likely the wiring harness and not even the solenoids...

Does anyone here have any experience with this? If I have to pay for a new Transmission Control Module, I am either going to get it towed back to my house and add a used one, or I am going to part the Suburban out.

Your advice is most appreciated.

Tell the shop that you'll take a huge bite out of the TCM if they can manage to pull a TCM out of your Suburban. Your tranny is controlled by the PCM which controls the engine also. GM didnt start splitting up the PCM into a TCM and a ECM as separate modules until 2007.

Honestly, I had talked to them before seeing this update, and asked questions they were very surprised by. The funniest things was when I described the inside of the transmission and the pieces -- aside from the wear pieces -- that often go bad and what the fixes were.

My biggest problem is that I have a great deal of theoretical knowledge -- I hyperfocus on stuff when I am trying to learn it -- but not as much practical knowledge as I would like. This Suburban was supposed to me my practical experience, but I have run out of time to get it completed, and I have 3+ additional projects that need my attention "RIGHT NAO!" So I figured I'd take a chance on the transmission shop. We'll see how they are, but I suspect their warranty is going to be useless. :-(

Please wish me luck.

EDIT: TYVM @rockola1971 Notice I forgot to thank you -- wanted you to know your information was appreciated. :)

Ug. How often do the valve bodies go bad in a 4l60e? Don't trust these guys...
