Transmission speed govern

My Blackbear tune removed the speed governor on my Suburban. She's pretty solid cruising as high as 110. Last road trip I actually cruised at 115 through southern Illinois for almost an hour before my blocker got nailed.

Took it up over 120 once. Once. Kind of surprised how squirrelly a 6500-lb truck got. Might be partially because I have the black chin spoiler removed and had too much airflow underneath, creating more lift.

Regardless, most tires for our trucks are not rated that high.

There are two different speed limiters from the factory:
VVJ: Calibration Speedometer (180 KPH/112 MPH)
VVK: Calibration Speedometer (200 KPH/124 MPH)

Most are programmed from the factory with VVJ, I assume VVK is reserved for official German-market Escalades. PPV/SSV probably don't have either codes to make them "open". I read something about over 130 mph for the 2WD police model.

Sometimes over here the importer removes the speed limiter but that is usually done by "hacking" the ECM, this does not go through GM at all.

Mine has the stock 180 kph limit because over here you are required to buy tires that either fulfill or exceed the speed limit of the vehicle they are put on. Tires in 275/55R20 with 190 kph speed index T are expensive enough, ones with speed index U or H (200 or 210 kph) are substantially more pricey.

Its not really a limiter per say. The deal is that there are no more instructions in the PCM for spark, fuel trims, etc. above a certain speed. For instance, why would you want a stock tahoe to be able to go 150mph (Not on a drag strip)? Thats just begging to die going that fast in a vehicle that is not designed to be a race car and WILL NOT handle like one. There are no instructions for a K Chassis (Pickup or SUV) in the PCM that will allow 1xx MPH. They had to stop somewhere in the programming.

There is NO governor in a 4L60E tranny either. It will go as fast as the amount of engine you put in front of it until the tranny gets more than its rated for or can handle and grenade.

USA trucks/SUVs were mostly limited at 95. My 93 Tahoe/blazer, 99 Tahioe, 2013 Tahoe LTZ and my 2000 F350 DRW 7.3 were all limited at 95 and all mine got removed. Of all of them the LTZ with the active suspension rides as stiff as my Vette at those speeds and handles pretty good, but stopping a 5500 lb brick at those speeds is different. The "instructions" above a certain speed are still there, the limiter just says you cant go faster. At any time I can just change the mph number in EFI Live on my tune and it wont go higher than that.

My 99 GMC Sierra 3door OBS 5.7L Vin R would shut down at 99MPH. And I often ran it to that on an airport runway when called out in the middle of the night to the airport for equipment repair.

The old style (GMT400) were limited at 99 mph (160 kph), even though there are some with a police model cluster that goes to 130 mph and they have a higher limiter. But with the crappy undersized stock brakes on the GMT400 chassis I wouldn't dare to drive one that fast.

Well that is interesting, guess I learned something. Maybe no "speed calibration" RPO means limiter at 99? The Vehicle Information Kit PDF sadly does not say detail the speed limiters.
