Ok so now that my Yukon is finally coming together I've been thinking of settin my sights on a new project ( not that the yuk is going any where or done) but I've always wanted to do a ground up restoration but was always a bit weary . I think I've finally grew some balls and thinking about starting a suburban project . Thanks to bowtiefreak i never thought a lifted suburban could look so good . However Since he has done one of a OBS suburban I think I want a gen older ( dont want to copycat) been shopping around at a few 89 87 and 85s (85s being the favorite) . I'm finding them at or around 3k for a decent one that runs with no major rust . Soo what do y'all think should I ?

I LOVE the square body Suburbans! They look fantastic either lifted or lowered and your mod options are limitless on them! Not to mention parts are pretty cheap. Not surprisingly I'm a fan of the round headlight front ends (73-79) but the later gen squares (like you've listed) are very cool too. When shopping for the wife's burb I tried to convince to let me get her a 90 Suburban that I could build up for her but she said no :sad72: Can I just live through you if you get this?

I have all kind of ideas for them that would basically make it a later model Burb with square body looks. I want to take the interior and powertrain out of my '07 and put it in a square someday :)

That post ended up longer than I'd intended

The older it is, the easier a full resto is. Nothing wrong with getting an OOBS burb if you already have an OBS Tahoe.

Those are nice, Atomic! Now imagine those with a GMT900 interior and either a 5.3 or 6.2  We are now getting close to my dream suburban.

Damn right. or a 502 :) Even a dmax would be pretty ****. hiding a 5inch exhaust would be a little hard tho

 Yeah, the Dmax would be pretty epic but that exhaust would be hard to hide and if you dumped it and decided to "roll coal" you'd probably get all that black smoke up in your ride  I could handle throwing in a 502 (or dare we say 572) :rocking:

A naturally aspirated torque monster of a 572 in a lowered, red OOBS 'burb would be my wet dream.:Hump:
