Just finished a ~2,500 mile trip from Houston, TX to the Great Smokey Mountains and back... Averaged just shy of 11 MPG towing our Hybrid at 65-70 MPH. I'm very happy with how the Suburban performed - especially compared to my previous TV, my 2014 F150 EcoBoost. I was averaging 7-8 MPG with it in the same setup.

Tow-rig brothers, just curious how warm does the trans fluid get during say an 8hr trip (I'm pulling 5-6k lbs) and at what temp should I get worried?

Mine used to get up to 212* (or more) with a 3500# trailer. I added a deeper aluminum pan, now, it takes a bit to even get up to 180* for normal driving and only got to about 203* towing. Others may chime in but, as I recall, with the newer fluids, I will start to worry about 225*-230*.

What kind of deep pan did you go with, I’ve been looking at them as well and I’ve been finding it hard to determine what fits and if I need a new pick-up.

The aluminum one (2 quarts deeper).

Yes, I had to drop my y-pipe. I also wrapped the exhaust y-pipe right where it goes under the pan. Trying to keep more heat off of there.

No need to get a longer pickup tube. And this one has built-in supports for the filter.

Great advice, especially the wrap. I have all mobil1 synthetic in my other cars, but all other cars are manuals, so trans fluid changes are easy. However I’ve never done a fluid change on an auto and would like to since I’ll be towing. Any advice on where to get detailed instructions?

Also, don't be afraid to use the manual (M) mode. I usually only use M6 on flat stretches. I am mostly in M 5 or 4. (6- speed trans)
