I have a 2002 Tahoe LT w/ 6" lift.

I parked my car at the gas station two days ago and when I got out I saw a yard service truck pull up adjacent to me (they park sideways across several spaces because their trucks are long). I went into the store and when I came out a man came up to me and told me that the guy in the yard service truck got out of his truck and apparently forgot to put it in park (?) and it rolled forward (about 10ft on flat ground) and hit my truck in the right rear tire. The guy in the yard service truck had obviously moved it back and was sitting in his truck like nothing had happened. I went up to him and asked if he had hit my truck and he admitted he had. I looked at the body and underneath and didn't see anything obviously wrong with it. I got the guy's name, phone number and the license plate of the truck and the name of the company. So today I'm looking under my truck and the rear differential looks like it's covered in fluid like it's leaking. I attached a picture of it. Does anyone have any idea of what's going on here? Any help would be appreciated.

Also I didn't feel any difference when I was driving it afterward.

This is especially frustrating because over the past two weeks I've spent about 2 grand on service and repairs for unrelated things to finally get the truck in perfect shape and the DAY I get it back this happens.

That`s just a little gear oil leaking from the filler hole, Nothing to worry about.

Take a 3/8 inch ratchet and see if you can snug it up a little.

Oh really? That's good to hear! I just had all the fluids changed the day before it was hit. Do you think it was from that and not from the collision? I just don't remember it looking like that when I got it back but I guess it could've leaked since then.

Thanks for your reply!

When the person that worked on it refilled the diff he probably didn`t wipe up the excess oil and as you drove the oil spread back. It looks dry so as long as you don`t find any drips on the ground when you park it`s fine but it can`t hurt to try and snug the bolt to make sure they didn`t forget to tighten it.

Yep, no biggie. If you want, just pull the plug and coat the threads with thread sealant and put it back in to snug. Spray all of the residual oil with brakleen or carb spray so you can tell if it's leaking again in the future.

I had the rear axle and tire checked out today after the collision and they said everything looks fine. I had them double check the rear diff and there are no leaks or anything. You guys were right, thanks!
