137k miles on my new-to-me Yukon. Seems pretty easy, but I thought I'd ask:
Is it fairly simple to do a tune up on the 5.3 Vortec? Should I replace with stock or go aftermarket on the plugs and wires? Anything else I should be changing? (Have a K&N box filter already).
Thanks

Always, ALWAYS use factory parts on tune ups. For some reason they seem to only like OEM parts. Fords like Motorcraft, Dodges like Champions because theyre JUNK, and Chevys like AC Delco.

Plugs, wires, fuel filter, and I would clean the throttle body with an manufacture approved cleaner. The PROPER way to do this on the newer fly by wire throttle bodies is to have someone in the vehicle and you or someone under the hood cleaning the throttle body. Have the person in the cab turn the key to the ON position, the hold the gas pedal to the floor. This will in turn, open the throttle body for cleaning. Then you clean it with the cleaner and let off the pedal and turn OFF the key. DONT be afraid that it may sound like a slight miss once you FIRST start it up after the clean. That's because of the residual cleaner being sucked in and burned. Should last a few seconds at MOST.

Good luck.

Also, make sure you gap the plugs correctly.

I`m not sure what year your truck is but if it has ac delco 41-985 or 41-110. Same plugs They just changed the number. They`re irridium and the gap is factory set and should not be touched or you could damage the plug.

another thing you should do is clean your mass air flow sensor. Only use MAF cleaner and never touch the wires. If you`re going to be putting a CAI on you`ll be removing the MAF so it should be easy.

As others said use ac deco parts if possible. I always like to do plugs, wires, distributor cap and coil, fuel filter, trans filter and fresh fluids. I also do MAF and throttle body. Doesn't all have to be done at once but def asap

So as long as I use AC Delco, I'll be ok? There are various types of Delco plugs (platinum, iridium, etc).
Thanks everyone for the advice!

I know you guys recommend stock, but I'm tempted to buy an MSD coil and wires. Will I be sorry?

You guys won't believe what I found. I changed 7 plugs in an hour, all plugs were Delco gapped at .040 and looked fairly well (I just acquired the vehicle so didn't know when last tune up was).....that last damn plug on the pass side took me almost another hour alone...to my surprise, I pulled out an NGK gapped at .080! Wonder how this was affecting performance and gas mileage....
