I am having an issue with my turn signals blowing fuses. I just picked up a 1998 Tahoe and the previous owner had tried installing some light duty trailer wiring which then caused the turn signals to stop working and blows the fuse prior to me buying it. I have removed all his wiring. Checked and double checked all the connections in the back and it is still blowing the fuses. I've checked the heavy duty wiring as well. The running lights and brake lights still work, but every time I put a new fuse in the lights blink once or twice and then the fuse pops. It is fuse #16. If I use the four ways it will then blow the #1 fuse. I have checked the front turn signals and the light sockets are filled with what I believe to be yellow electronic grease. Is this supposed to be there? Any ideas what else I should check? Having turn signals would be really nice as I have a lot of people giving me dirty looks.

Thanks Vheim

Thier cheap and easy to do. One thing you can do is put a meter on the circuit and see if you have a dead short. You can also check the flasher to see if it has a dead short in it.

Well I got a new flasher relay and all is good. I was getting tired of being rude and not using my blinkers. Feels good to not have to use hand signals as well.

Damn...the same thing is happening to me but it's just the passenger signal. I've replaced all bulbs, several fuses, tail light circuit boards etc. The only thing left is the turn signal switch but I'm holding out as long as I can.

Lucky you didnt have to replace that turn signal switch. They are not cheap and kind of a ***** to do. I just did mine yesterday cause I broke my hazard switch which caused the blinkers to stay on constently. I was real thrilled to find out that the part alone was almost $200. Thank god I was able to install it.

Autozone... $176.95 plus tax. Yes it was that bad. Kind of a ***** to put in too and to top that all off, of course I broke the column cover taking it off cause I didnt see the "how to" in the other forum about taking it off. D'oh :Plugged:
