Unsure if I want Tahoe with AFM

See, I learn something new every day. I was going off of what @wjburken was saying and I bet he knows what you just said but was generalizing. He said 2007 and 2008 knowing that they were not activated with the ECM software and he said 2009 Denali that did not have it at all. I have no experience with that engine because I was out of the shops by then and did not know the details you just shared. My bad.

I see 2 errors with what is being presented in this thread:
1) There is a more recent version of this TSB technical service bulletin. I've been posting the latest version in various threads here for 2 yrs. TSB 10-06-01-008M:

2) The factory valley cover (VLOM/hardware) that came on my 07 Denali 6.2 L92 does NOT have any ridges/oil passages necessary for AFM activation. So regardless of software or any other hardware, it is impossible for AFM to activate. I believe the following is true for the 07-08 6.2 Here is a note from the mx log book that I keep:
The L92 actually had a first and second design.

The first design, built prior to April 1, 2006 contained AFM components, but were left disconnected from the ECM.

The second design eliminated the AFM components altogether.

I posted the down rev TSB -F versus -M. Sorry I missed your previous posting with the newer rev bulletin.

I read through the bulletin in your link but was unsure what the difference is in the latest guidance, versus the link I posted to the down rev TSB.

Is it related to the guidance of how techs should proceed on iron versus alu block engines?

The ONLY 6.2 engine that HAD NO AFM system was the L9H 6.2 for 2009.
Everything from 2010 forward in a 6.2 had the AFM system and it’s active in the ECM software programming. Along with all 5.3 V8s from 2007-current.
So not to hijack, but I assume then that the only 6.2l Tahoe in that body style just happened to avoid the AFM? Nice

I bought a 2008 Tahoe in late 2008. It had 21,000 miles when I bought it. Sold it last year with 131,000+ miles on it. NEVER had a problem with the AFM. Only major thing I had to do was replace the gears at the rear axle (under warranty thank goodness) the second year I owned it. Great vehicle.

We have a 2008 Denali without AFM. I rebuilt the engine...it did not have AFM components.
