Alright so i bought a used tahoe from a guy and it has the Bose audio in it. He as added a custom deck but i believe he did not use the proper harness as onstar does not work nor do the charms. I am not sure if they added a custom amp or not. Now my question is If i buy the pac harness for bose/onstar and choose to not use the bose amp in the future or they have already added a custom one. Will it still work on a different amp?

TLDR will the bose pac harness work with custom amp/bose amp depending on setup

Yes Maybe No!!!!!

We can not predict as you cant what has been done. Your going to have to pull it apart and see what is going on.

Here is another question what year? 00-02 chimes work without radio but On-star doesn't, 03-06 chimes don't work and neither does the on-star.

Info is needed when asking these kinds of question. Fill out you info "Grant" or better yet include what vehicle you are talking about. Do a bit of leg work cause we don't have the vehicle here to inspect.

Sorry about that Thought I filled it in! I will do that now. But for a quick post its an 03 with bose onstar mirror. retained accessory power also will not work. I have got in behind the deck but have not traced to any custom amps yet. Still need to get the center console apart.

I would get the console apart. Look and see if the PO customized the wiring. If so you might be better off finding a OEM harness and start from there. Then add the PAC. I think, not 100% sure, there is a harness that lets you by pass the stock amp. But without seeing what you having going on its a shot in the dark as to how it currently working.

There are also lots of awesome threads on here that go over how to add an amp to stock and aftermarket systems. Pretty much any combo, do a little research you might actually find something that exactly matches what you are working with. People do amazing things (some good and most bad) to avoid buying a $120 harness to hook up there $150 radio.

Yep got to wait until tomorrow to rip it apart and check. I did find that it still has factory bose amp in center console thats a start. I have been reading and staring at wire diagrams and instructions for harness so I may have an idea of what i am looking at when i get inside. I hope when they had it "professionally installed" that they used a cheap harness and did not cut and splice. But like you said only one way to find out.

Well are there rca plug's hooked up behind the radio? That's a quick way to determine if they are using the factory amp or not.

RCA is there. Found where they come out under back seat. still going to open dash to see if they used custom stuff. Hope its not to late to save it and use a pac harness

did some more digging and it looks like all that is hooked into the stock harness is a metra 70-2003. Now looking at it I believe if i just hook the deck up with the PAC harness I will get chimes and onstar? no aftermarket amp is present wires just end under a seat.

Well if that's the case they prolly cut your speaker wires are the bose amp to bypass it and ran to the 4 chanel amp.

Yukon I appreciate your help with this. But what Can I use to retain the factory onstar/chimes? is it still the pac OS-2 just non bose? Im fine with running my own amp and sub just like having chimes. aftermarket amp would sound better as well as a larger sub

EDIT

There is no aftermarket amp currently. All the speakers appear to work just fine. If they bypassed the factory amp would they still work just from the deck? I cant seem to find any custom speaker wires ran to the deck. its still part of the OEM harness. the deck is a pioneer avh-p2400bt
