They are notorious for blowing the plastic lower intake gaskets, not the rubber upper gasket (with the rubber upper manifold cover). Replace with felpro rubber and metal gaskets. I didn't even replace that gasket when I did my leaky intake gaskets.

Could be the coolant temp sensor. If it's bad it can cause problems when the engine is cold. The engine won't be getting enough fuel and runs rough. Have him scan the engine and look at the coolant temp readings on a cold start. If the engine thinks it is warm when it's not, then put a new sensor in it.
