Took my wife and folks up to Savannah for the weekend. Not enough time! As luck would have it, my main event, visiting the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum, was closed while in town. We enjoyed the great food, hospitality and the charming city. Have to go back with two or three days next time.

The Yukon handled the trip with perfection. She got 18.5 MPG loaded to 7100 pounds at 74 mph heading north on Racetrac 93.

Gas price gripes:

Stopped at a Chevron in Vero, they wanted $5.69 a gallon so we drove next door to Ractrac and purchased 93 for $4.09. Nobody anywhere near was even close to charging that much.

Then, just before leaving Savannah, pulled in to a Chevron in town and they wanted an even $5.00 a gallon. No thanks! Drove 73 miles to Brunswick and got Chevron 93 for $3.899 a gallon! Still had a hundred miles of range but knew fuel in Jacksonville would be more expensive.

Oldest daughter was leaving a store the other day, she put the key i the ignition, turned it and BANG! A muffled explosion from under the hood and the lights went out!

She popped the hood and this is what she found:




As you can see, the battery exploded. Fitting for this 2017 Ferd Escape. They replaced the battery and drove on. I can only imagine the problems brewing from all acid flying all over the engine compartment.

Clean your terminals!

Dirty terminals caused that? And, yeah, there's gonna be corrosion everywhere you'd never reach to clean.

That or the plates touched. It's a Group 48 battery like ours, but cannot tell if it was maintenance free or not. I read that this can happen when they are too low on water and something causes the plates to get loose and touch. Probably the latter, the corrosion spread across the top and arced I guess. I'm not learned enough to tell for sure from those two pictures she sent me.

Just blow a bunch of baking soda all over under there and rinse it down with a shower from the hose.

About 25 years ago my ex-wife's ****** did that. She went to leave for work and turned the key and heard a pop then a bunch of liquid hitting the garage floor.

I was already at work and she didn't tell me about it and thought it was strange when I came home that afternoon and pulled into the garage and saw her car there with the hood open and a puddle of battery acid under the car.

Baking soda neutralized it all, but I have some pitting in the concrete floor in that area

Was just going to say this....

Mix up some baking soda and water in a spray bottle and just coat EVERYTHING, especially down inside the fenders and anywhere it could have gotten between layers of metal.
