V4/V8 issues

Trying to understand the best way to keep my 2015 Tahoe LTZ in V8 mode versus shifting back and forth to V4. I have seen plug in for it but hoping to get some more insight into other options. Mind you I have no car experience so if you could tell me in woman’s terms. Lol

On my 2014 Tahoe LTZ 5.3lt eng, simply driving with the transmission in manual gear 5 will turn off the AFM mode, can’t hurt to give it a try?
