I purchased my 04 Tahoe 4wd in 05. The only two things I wish it had are a sunroof and limited slip rear differential. I'm in the process of updating the truck as opposed to buying new. While there is nothing I can do about the sunroof, I know I can add a limited slip.
The truck currently as a 3:73 rear which I am happy with overall. So my question is, what are my options, keeping the 3:73 ratio and what is involved with the swap?
An suggestions on brand, options are greatly appreciated.
Thanks.....

My recommendation is more towards the type of LSD rather than brand. I blew up the OEM (Eaton Gov-Lock (AKA "GOV-BOMB) LSD in my S10 at less than 40K miles. I replaced it with a Zexel Torsen out of a Camaro SS. The Gov-Lock is a clutch type LSD so it can wear out. The way it works is kinda harsh on itself and in a 4WD vehicle, it is subjected to a higher risk of stress. The Zexel Torsen is all gears so it holds positive traction much more firmly and it doesn't have clutches to wear out. There are other non-clutch types, but avoid the ratchet types if this is a mostly street-driven truck.

I haven't researched (no need- yet!) what all is available for the full-size trucks, but I know there are plenty of options just as there are for performance cars. Regardless of LSD, you can keep your current gear set and swap it to the new carrier.

Another easier/quicker option is to get an LSD rear from a salvage yard or parted-out truck and swap the whole rear end in a couple of hours. You're at the mercy of the rear's condition, though.
