Check your wheel hub. Jack your front tires up. You can do them individually. Grab the top and bottom and see if you can get a wobble or play. If so your hub is bad. My tahoe used to skate as well. Easy test to see if that will solve the problem before you go down a rabbit hole with your front end. Not sayin the others don't need to be checked. But a hub will cause steering problems like following ruts or " skating"

It's been a long time but wasn't there a dealer tsb for this? Possible recall? Call the dealer with your VIN.
