This is absurd. In reality you'd stop in Valdosta - about the midway point - charge for 30-40 minutes at the Electrify America station in the Walmart parking lot, walk around the store and buy snacks for your trip. Or eat lunch at the Cajun Wild Crab next door. It would cost you about $4.80 to add 200 miles of range to your vehicle (if you're an EA member for $4/month). Once at Disney you'd find a Level 2 charger at your hotel and charge up for free for the return trip.

Charging infrastructure is lacking right now, but it's improving every day. Once the big truck stop brands realize how much they can profit by sticking charging stations in their parking lots, range anxiety will be a thing of the past. Allegedly Tesla's Supercharging network will be opened to other manufacturers soon - I'm not holding my breath on that one but it will cause demand to increase even faster.

For those who say "But I can't tow my horse trailer from Detroit to San Diego in one day like I can with my Yukon!" Well... it's not for you, then. No big deal.

Bruh do you even have kids. Or a wife. That are all going to sit around and watch you fiddle with some charger and have fun luxuriating at the walmart for half an hour.

Or better yet having to say, "sorry wife, please take the kids back into walmart, yeah the charger is only giving me 40kw, no babe I don't know why it's doing that, I know I tried the one next to it it was broken, maybe you can go try on some $13 wrangler jeans or something, get yourself something nice. I know honey, that car is finished charging at the faster charger but I just saw them go into the Cajun Wild Crab. Babe they're probably going to be awhile, I think it's a buffet. Yeah babe they were bigger people. No, I'm not going to go in and ask them to move it. Well babe you're just going to have to cancel the disney dinner at Ohana tonight. Just get the kids some beef sticks in walmart."

And then the whole concept of dumping the family and going off on an errand to charge your car while at Disney. Yeah

Long distance travel even for the current/new gas burners is a crossed fingers venture.
How so? Gas tahoe/yukon can get over 400 miles on a single tank and baby diesels can get almost 700 miles....i agree the mpg isn’t the greatest in these rigs but people don’t buy these rigs for the mpg

Twin 6 year olds and a 16 month old. My Cayenne has a 600 mile range, I can’t remember the last time we went more than 150 miles without stopping for half an hour. I’ll be fine with the Rivian’s 316 mile range. (Your story will absolutely happen, and I’ll dad-rage out of the lot with a 3 second 0-60 run.)

^ THIS TIMES 1 MILLION there putting the cart before the horse. i am going to laugh my @ss off as i drive by the lines for charging in my ICE vehicle.

That is just a chat forum and that drawing is a rendering by an artist, nothing from GM. I think the earliest you’d see an electric Tahoe/yukon would be 2026-27 cuz the current platform is scheduled thru 2026. My cousin who works for GM thinks you’ll see an ev escalade first tho of the 3 suvs.
But yea the real world EV experiences so far are not the greatest, basically if u only have to travel <60 miles a day to work and home and then plug it in every night then they r fine, long distance travel are def a no. But what’s funny is charging prices home and on road are coming out to be equal to our elevated gas prices $4-5/gallon.
It's really hard to accurately estimate the future costs of charging an EV, as electrical rates are bound to soar. The cost to charge up might easily end up being much more expensive than gasoline.

You betcha on electric rates. Just like EVERY other industry in the last 2 years.....some bogus shortage, strike, etc. Everyone is coming op with stupid ways to rip people off. You think all those rebates for solar are FREE!!!! Think again, the piper will need to be paid

Studies have proven that they are not safer for the environment. Where do you get that electrical power? From a coal power plant. How are the batteries made? By digging massive lithium mines destroying forests and homes. What happens when a lithium battery catches on fire? It doesn't extinguish. The manufacturing and operation of the EV is more damaging to the environment than a gasoline vehicle!

It certainly can take longer than that. My scenario of 30-40 minutes assumes the fast chargers are working at optimal levels. Which is not a given! Electrify America is the dominant charging network at the moment, besides Tesla, and they are plagued by broken chargers & slower-than-advertised rates. Again, I think the charging network issues will be solved by the market & healthy government subsidies. Just like farming.

The benchmark vehicle in my prior scenario is the Rivian - good time to mention I have ordered their SUV - which is more efficent than the Hummer but on par with the Lightning - both pretty awful by EV standards. For instance, a Tesla can add 200 miles in 15 minutes. Barely enough time to pee and pick out snacks.
farming and installing electric chargers are not even similar in any way shape or form.
even cable companies with mega billions can't afford to lay a single fiber optic cable to a house, they can reach a node but generally that's as far as they go into already existing infrastructure.
we are talking about basically digging up sidewalks and roadways and parking lots and laying new wire for each and every charger.
good f-in luck, not saying it can't be done, it can at great cost and with a army of workers that we do not have too many are suckling the nipple
these are not cell towers, not wireless access points, these are hard wired connections
throw this on top of it, each city/county/province/precinct, etc, etc has there own "permitting process" and you can be dam sure every "charging station" is going to have to be permitted and approved, blueprinted, documented, certified.
then before they can even dig a hole to lay a wire they have to survey for existing wire's, sewer pipes, drains, gas lines, etc,etc
1 farming tractor can do the work of a thousand men, these are not the same at all
