What is different about winter blend gasoline?

They run a higher mix of ethanol in the winter, varying by region. I believe it has something to do with emissions levels changing with the temps, could be wrong about that part.

my tahoe dropped from about 17 down to barely 14. and my f150 that usually gets around 21 is down to high 17s low 18s

In Nj it's oxygenated(winter blend), you get less and they raise the price.

No Mark, that was your right foot enjoying the free horsepower! Got mine back from the wife, in the 8s and even idling, got it up to 9.3 then back to 9.0 mpg! I'm running E85 @ 66% though.

I remember when oxygenated gasoline was all the rage and our race motors started knocking on that garbage. I should have bought stock in 104+ octane booster back then! Do they still foist that stuff on us along with ethanol in our regular gasoline?

Ethanol also has winter blends where the alcohol content is less to aid with cold starting. Not sure what it is though, probably in the 51-62% range.

I'm not sure about the octane booster as far as how well it works, but Whipple states I can't use it in place of premium gas. So I would think it doesn't work all that good. So yes, that was 7.6 mpg on premium gas lol. If I could burn E85 it would probably be more like 4.6.

Seeing about 16 MPG in a highway heavy mix right now. Lots of remote starting going on and more 4WD than usual. My running average is about 18.5 MPG over 60k miles.

12.5 recently. Not quite sure why. Its had recent everything. 5w30 syn oil. all fluids are syn. Must be a change in driving.
