I decided to go with new black badges to get the high gloss look. Dip is typically more of a matte or satin look.

With that being said, if I had known how fragile the paint is I would have tried hyper dip piano black. For comparison of paint hardness/durability, I had to be more aggressive to remove adhesive when I removed a spoiler on my 6 yr old Ford and it’s paint barely needed light buffing when I was finished. Not sure if it’s due to todays water based paints being less durable, thinner or??
I apologize because I think this was discussed, but there are too many pages to go through. I want to remove my Z71 fender badges. My plan is a heat gun and floss. Any advice?

Be patient and take your time.

I suggest you pick up some adhesive remover which will be much more effective than goo gone for any residual adhesive.

Measure carefully and/or use masking/painters tape to mark where the original badges are so you can put new badges back in the right spot.

Looks good. Do the white marker lights still work as reflectors too?

Removed my chrome side badges. Fishing line and 3M adhesive remover. I still see a little something on the side. Maybe some polishing compound and wax. I used some Meguires Quick Detailer but it isn’t enough. Debating leaving bare or getting all black Z71 badges. Hmmm. I have two small 6.2 L badges. I may just add one to left rear tailgate. Someone else posted a pic of that. It looked good.
