Got the oil pan off, oil pump replaced, timing cover on. Was planning on getting the pan up tonight so the rtv has a good long time to cure but I'm just not feeling it.
Front crank seal wasn't leaking but it was about to. The thing's all stiff
While the front of the engine was clean, the underside showed some light brown varnish that wipes off with a rag. Going to shorten my OCIs a bit to 2.5 to 3k. Been at 3.5 to 4k. I blame that bit wholly on the short trips I do around town. The freeway trips just don't make up for it
Little failure analasys:
I was experiencing oil Pressure fluctuations when warm, particularly at higher RPMs.
The pickup tube o ring was soft and pliable, no cracks or other concerns.
Oil pump tolerance was. 004" consistently within the gear set
Bypass valve showed some scoring exclusive to one area. My suspicion it it was sticking and causing some erratic behavior. My fingers are too large to fit in the passages and feel for any casting flash, unfortunately
