Don't know about other States but here in Ohio you better check that spare once a year. Not for how the tire looks but how the lowering stuff is working! My '06 Silverado was wasted and would not lower the spare!
I found that out after I ripped the side wall out of a tire on a job site. Had to have the whole system replaced.
Yes, I’m lucky, this has always been a Colorado truck, and even though we have some decent snow, we don’t have nearly as much trouble with salt on roads destroying our undercarriages around here. Funny, checking the functionality of the spare hoist was on my “to-do” list, and then my tire found the self tapping screw, so I learned it functioned earlier than I had planned. Lol. Really glad I had no trouble with it!

The '06 was a used truck the Company bought for me. I now check that system on all my vehicles that have it.
And just 2 weeks after having the '06 system replaced? I got a pair of scissors in the other rear tire!

Yep. That's the part I couldn't get to release! I could lower and raise the damned tire but not get it off!

So after spending 2 hours in the rain trying to clean the engine compartment last night?
I dig into my stuff of 'why the hell you still have this after 20+ years?'
Well. I had some 'bling' stuff! Covered the vacuum line to the brake booster with Stainless steel braid and covered the ugly ground strap with a shiny wire cover thing.

I thought the Air Gun hobby was a freaking deep rabbit hole!

I hate a smart ass. ;)
That is SWEET though!
Years ago I mounted a 6/71 blower case on a Pontiac. It didn't do anything but looked cool as hell and scared alot of people away! Under it was a dual 4 bbl set up.
