True dat. But then I would never sleep again.

Cutting done. Yes, it walked on me in that one spot.

Cleaned it out as best I could up there with a toothbrush and vacuum. No leaves or anything, but a bit of nasty buildup in the fins that wouldn't have been there with a filter.

Filter installed. Fit is good. This is the Dorman carbon filter.

And yes, I got that third screw back in the kickplate. I used the old masking tape in the socket trick and then sacrificed my hand and wrist to get it started which took about 14,000 tries. Then I got a little ratchet into it and finished it off.

Airflow seems just as good as before and with AC season rolling in one of these days, I'm glad to know there's a filter in there.
Ok might of missed a post what did you cut it with ? Carpenters knife ? Dremal ?

I have to finally add the cabin AF this weekend. I've literally had the filter in my garage since before I moved into my new house 3 years ago, along with parts to make a "rigged" door. Just recently bought a legit door kit. My question is this:

Since there is no groove as you pointed out, how did you cut so evenly? did you measure / tape?

Any ideas here would be great, as my hands are not at all steady enough for this, and I'll make that 1 runaway you had look like a professional job. Please let me know how you did it!

Oh, and THANKS FOR THE PICTURES!

I just took my time and got a good straight score. Then I made another pass. By the third time, I was able to put the blade through the plastic and cut it fairly easily with a slow steady pull towards myself. Closest to the firewall was the hardest part.

I used a sheetrock knife but a dremel works, as @HiHoeSilver did, just go slow with the dremel

I used a fixed blade utility knife with a brand new blade.

So imma derail this thread for a second. Got a weird clunk from the rear ending that only happens when I go over bumps. Thought it was the spare but it’s tight. Thinking the springs may not have seated all the way in the upper perch. Rear end was rebuilt in 08ish with a posi but it’s been taken care of. Read it could be the slip yoke or the pinion bearing but the pinion bearing seems unlikely imo.
