I pay cash for my vehicles and never have paid for comprehensive insurance. So you are actually paying for those rock chip repairs if you don’t get in any accidents, through your premiums. I have had only one at-fault accident in 45 years of driving and that was minor so I don’t see the need to pay that price for comp. I save $250-300 a month on insurance, so a chip repair here or there isn’t a big deal but it would be nice to do my own repairs.I have never had to pay to get a chip fixed in my windshield. I guess I’ve always had an insurance policy that would cover the full cost of fixing a chip. If I’ve had to replace a windshield, however, I’ve had to pay for it as the cost is usually equal to or just slightly higher than my deductible and not worth filing a claim at all.
