Ordered ac compressor, accumulator, orifice tube and condenser from RA. Their 5% discount expired on the 11th and there’s no new one yet. They’ll probably post a new one tomorrow of course but if I waited it would be a week before they do. That's some kind of law I think, not Murphys but something similar.

Well I just tried jumping that switch connector and got the compressor to come on after it tried 3 times. And it did not sound good. So it looks like I’ll be replacing it. Time to put a parts order in. @clandr1 were you the one that said you ended up with metal fragments from the compressor in your system? I’m hoping mine doesn’t but when it turned on just now it sounded like something was clunking. Hoping this doesn’t turn into a nightmare.
It was me and what a PITA it was to flush and clean. You'll know pretty quickly when you open up the system especially at the orifice tube.

All right thanks. Fingers crossed. What symptoms did your compressor have? Did you know when the “catastrophic failure” happened?

My understanding is that when something goes that sideways in the a/c system, it’s pretty well expected that all these parts need to be replaced. Problem is.. what if any little remnants end up in that new compressor you’re installing..? :rage:

Well it’s like @RAMurphy said, if there’s metal fragments in the system I’ll know when I look at the orifice tube. And if so, I’ll have to flush the crap out. I’ll cross that bridge if and when I get there. Hopefully I won’t need to.

I believe in the power of prayer, positive thinking and lots of penetrating oil!
I have faith that I will be able to get the safety latch on my spare tire carrier to set itself free.
Maybe not today... Maybe not next week... But, dang-it! I know, eventually, my tire will come down without cutting something off!

I am willing to wait patiently for the oil to work its magic, so I do not have to spend money on a new spare tire carrier.

Cable looks like new. It was just the safety mechanism that was all crusty. Ok, so the spare tire rim is also a little crusty, but the tire is like new!

Sorry for the delayed response, family life got in the way. So symptons: for about 3-4 months I would get a rattling/vibration when the compressor clutch engaged. Then I lost a belt. Did a little research, so I replaced the tensioner. Didn't help. It was still cooling, just not as well. So I continued to troubleshooting. Then I lost another belt. It was middle of the summer, so I replaced it, and ran it at idle as I watched. Everytime the clutched engaged there was a slight metallic grinding noise and the belt would vibrate and most likely slip. Lived with it for another month and noticed cooling significantly dropped off when at idle. Two weeks later it essentially blew up internally when at a light. The freon all leaked out right there. It looked like my engine compartment caught fire. Hope that helped, Bob

Mark, I also ended up buying a o-ring/seal kit. Not that expensive and I was glad to have it.
