That's what I'm hoping for. Need to pick up clear and some 320 sand paper to strip the paint that is currently on them off.

You shouldn't have to strip it all off. If the paint is properly adhered then all you need to do is scuff the surface and use that as your base. It will stick as long as it's smooth and not glossy anymore.

Good advice. You won't get better adhesion than the factory primer already has.

Didn't check the Moog's, I was looking at the Fabtechs. $$$$$$$$

I'm thinking about trying the rough country tie rod sleeves. They are like $35 seems like a pretty inexpensive upgrade.


Edit: hrm I'm reading that they may not work with moog tie rod ends. I'll have to do a bit more research before I take the plunge.

They were originally pearl white. But a coworker of mine painted them dark red cause he put them on his 01 Yukon. I sanded them down the first time with 500 for him but he didn't use any primer when he painted them and used clear coat for wheels. So I felt it'd be best to take off all the clear and red he sprayed before I tried to paint them because I want them smooth as glass and flawless. So I plan to strip them down to factory coating then spray primer, paint, then clear them. Hopefully have a good outcome.

Looks like that's true since it says this on Rough Country's website:

What would be the difference? If the Moog TRE screws onto the same tie rod, it should be an OEM replacement. Not sure why the new sleeve wouldn't work.

I'm also not seeing a big benefit with the sleeve itself either...

I also didn't see any major benefit of them, and I was also under the impression that the moogs were a direct oem replacement. They look exactly the same as the stockers when I changed mine. I'm holding off for a couple months and getting the Rare Parts ones. The video I saw of OEM vs Rare Parts sold me!

I haven't had a problem with my Moog ones and I think those Rare Parts ones are way overpriced so I think I'll stand pat. Rare Parts are making a killing on those.

To be fair, I can see the superior strength of the RP parts, but how often do we see these parts pulling apart or failing based on strength?

If that's not an issue, then it would seem to me that the question is- How long do the Rare Parts components last/wear compared to stock?
Will they go a lot longer before showing wear or will that be similar to stock?

From what I gather, most of the heavy duty steering pieces are built with the off-roader in mind, where not only are they running big tires but also hitting big bumps and other obstacles where you might actually bend parts. I may have 26" rims but if I ever hit something hard enough to bent the tie rods, that will be the least of my worries since my rim will be bent and my tire flat.
