Damn that’s crazy but it’s ok cause you finally got it figured out. Wonder if they were dropped or if the spindles came off a wrecked truck. Did you notice and minor damage on them? Areas that might have been “touched up” . Never thought about checking new/used spindles , but now I will. Sucks but thanks for sharing :Handshake:
Nothing obvious sticks out. If you look at you can see it. Never thought to check it tho

New reman steering gear on a 174,000 mile rig .
2006 GMC Yukon XL SLT.
It steers better then new. It seriously steers like My DeVille . There is nothing I could do to make it more perfect. Crazy. [emoji106]

wow ive heard nothing but terrible things about steering gear replacements other than the $$$ ones like red head. I've got 185 on my caddy and id like to do it eventually. Where did you get yours?

Rock Auto .. Its a BBB industry one . 3 year or 36,000 miles . Part stores charge double for it and give you a lifetime warranty on BBB industry steering gear. I'm going with idea if works good for 3 years all will be good [emoji106]

The rule of thumb is true about them getting super sloppy at 174,000 miles . It's hard to see the slop because steering gear under oil pressure . But the difference is steering a big deal . I read a post all steering gears with over 120,000 miles need to be replaced is pretty much Johnny on the spot. I do think 4x4 is even harder on the steering gear.

If anyone knows what those three bolts on the frame holding the gearbox on torque is let me know. I need to retorque them after I drive it for a while. There at about 140 ftlbs now.

I have 165k on my 02 Denali and it’s still tight. Drives straight as hell. I did replace the rest of the steering though.

the other problem that people have is over assisted steering. The power steering assist is variable and if your sensor is bad it defaults to full power all the time IIRC. this can make it feel a little twitchy on the highway.
