What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Finally got around to swapping out the ac compressor. Replaced the tensioner while I was in there and the o-rings. I have now officially replaced every component from the evaporator core to the condenser. Just need to cross my fingers and charge it up.

I can't lie, I'm a little nervous. A lot of work and money in the little project. I didn't add that I also removed the rear ac and changed the hoses and compressor out to match. So there's a little more risk in this one.

About a week ago the truck's HVAC started not cooling as well as it usually does. I checked it out and the high side service port was leaking (apparently, GM uses a check ball instead of a schrader valve on the high side and this is a common problem with older valves).

I ordered a new OEM service port valve for $5, and a local shop evacuated the refrigerant, replaced the valve, and recharged it to spec for $94 out the door. It's back to blowing cold air and the shop said it passed the vacuum test so hopefully all is well moving forward.

I'm impressed that in over 15 years of ownership, this is the first time I've had to have the A/C serviced.

The guy filled it up and then told me I have a pretty good leak at that valve. It all leaked out in a matter of days. Seems he could have checked it for leaks before completely charging it and making me pay. Anyway I put a new style Schrader valve in and it's been fine ever since except the one time the belt either broke or came off. But it's stayed charged.

Good call. I started to look around for a schrader replacement, but wasn't sure I'd order the right one and figured if the first one lasted 15 years, this one should have me set for another decade plus (hopefully).
